IP Calc

The IP calc allows network calculations using some parameters: network class, IP address, subnet mask, subnet bits, mask bits, maximum number of subnets and maximum number of hosts.
Varying one parameter mentioned above, the results allow checking all the rest also provide data on: the first octet range, wildcard ACL (Access Control List), range of IP addresses available for hosts, ID subnet, broadcast address, map of the bits.
The calculations follow the applicable rules issued by the IETF ,international level, and can be used for projects of LANs, configuration and verification of data also in a home network, SOHO (Small Office Home Office) or enterprise.

Guide

Fields you can set are :
- Address Class: you can choose between A, B, C. The rest of the parameters are automatically set at a default value which is always the first useful one, eg Class A -> Subnet Mask 255.0.0.0
- IP Address: consists of 4 numbers, each entry number can vary from 1 to 255 as established by IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force) in RFCs (Request For Comments). In particular, the first octet can vary from 1 to 223 (last available number for the C class. You can verify the IP address entered in the read-only field Extended IP.
- Subnet Mask: The subnet can be selected from those possible according to class and it follows the rules laid by RFC 1878
- Subnet Bit, Nr.max Subnet, mask bit and Max No. of hosts: Selectable as defined in the previous point.
All the rest of the field is read-only and provides useful information about the network parameters.

Rules

1. If it is not selected, class is automatically calculated based on the range of the first octet;
2. For Class A the range of the first octet must be 1-126;
3. For Class B range of the first octet must be 128-191;
4. For Class C range of the first octet must be 192-223;
5. The network 127.0.0.0 can not be used as reserved for loopback, see RFC 3330 ;
6. The Class D and Class E can not be used as reserved for multicast ( Class D) and future use( Class E) , see RFC 1700 ;
7. The IP Calculator performs calculations with the rest of the remaining networks, it should be noted that not all can be used in reality. Therefore, the entire community is invited to a careful reading of the previous links.
